Lead Quantitative Risk Analyst, Credit Risk Review – Wholesale Data Analytics (Hybrid)

Purpose of Job Our Data Analytics team supports, enables, and solutions the data and analytics needs of the Wholesale Credit Risk Review team. This unique opportunity will enable the Quantitative Risk professional to collaborate with others across business units, risk management, and the USAA Enterprise in the translation of business needs into data requirements and the fulfillment thereof.

This Lead Quantitative Risk Analyst is the Counterparty and Investment credit Data Analytics subject matter expert in Credit Risk Review.
This position is responsible for the quality and timely execution of data analytics requests in support of Continuous Monitoring, Periodic Reviews, and Portfolio Assessments for non-lending wholesale credit risk residing in USAA Federal Savings Bank and identification of additional wholesale lending and non-lending credit risks across the Enterprise
Provide support to the Wholesale Credit Risk Review team through an independent and robust Data Analytics program including:
o Data acquisition
o Data preparation
o Data wrangling
o Data presentation and delivery
o Data visualization
o Build solutions that empower the Wholesale Credit Risk Review team with timely information to inform their work, automating where possible
Serve as a coach and mentor of other colleagues on the Data Analytics team
Conduct peer reviews and establish protocols
Collaborate with other Wholesale Credit Risk Review Leads to understand their data needs, provide solutions, and enable the consistent execution of the USAA Credit Risk Review programs

This position reports to the Credit Risk Review Director of Data Analytics and is available as Hybrid in Plano TX, San Antonio TX, Charlotte NC, Tampa FL, Phoenix AZ, and Colorado Springs CO

Conducts and develops quantitative and analytic models, assessments and/or applications in support of risk management efforts that assess the market and identify risks and gaps in existing or proposed processes. Applies diverse methodologies and deep experience in quantitative analytics to identify and solve complex and/or undefined risk problems. Works with leadership to remediate gaps and improvements identified between existing practices and regulatory requirements. Leads and executes complex initiatives and cross functional teams within the Chief Risk Office and across the Enterprise that drive problem resolution.   • Applies expert knowledge to produce advanced analytical material to lead discussions with cross functional teams and senior leadership to understand complex business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Demonstrates thought leadership in cross functional team environments.
  • Drives and creates cross functional teams in support of initiatives that have significant impact to the enterprise or a core business area.
  • Provides direction and mentorship to other team members in the peer review process.
  • Expertly communicates analytical results, findings and solutions to governance committees and business process owners and influences business analysis.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative discipline. 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 8 years related quantitative analysis experience in a discipline relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics or other quantitative discipline. OR advanced degree/designation in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative discipline and 6 years work experience in a quantitative discipline relevant to risk management. OR PhD in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative discipline and up to 4 years work experience in a quantitative discipline relevant to risk management

Preferred Experience:

  • Data analytics or science experience using SQL, SAS, and visualization tools (Tableau) preferred
  • Automation solutions through technology preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of market credit data transactions, including derivatives, settlements and mortgage capital markets at large financial institutions is preferred
  • Expertise in quantitative analysis of public and private sector fixed income securities and knowledge of fixed income markets preferred
  • Data Analytics experience in Credit Risk Review is preferred, but not required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required with ability to present complex and sensitive issues to management


USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $117,600.00 - $211,700.00.(this does not include geographic differential it may be applied based on your work location)

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

*Geographical Differential: Geographic pay differential is additional pay provided to eligible employees working in locations where market pay levels are above the national average.

Shift premium will be addressed on an individual basis for applicable roles that are consistently scheduled for non-core hours.
