Project Engineer - Warehouse Operation

The Project Engineer - Warehouse Operation is a critical role that provides both strategic and operational leadership to ensure "best-in-class" daily operation of the El Paso Distribution Center, that drives toward a zero-accident safety culture and leads continuous improvement activities. This person is a continuous improvement specialist and uses a variety of skills, such as project management and warehouse engineering to ensure flawless performance in the execution of initiatives. The Project Engineer will lead our effort to identify and drive out losses through standards and process improvements applied to warehousing, space optimization, and material distribution flow. This key role will identify and implement changes within operations through data-driven solutions to deliver higher levels of performance in safety, quality, delivery, and profit.

AS A PROJECT ENGINEER - WAREHOUSE OPERATION, YOU WILL:
  • Drive process improvement activities to achieve site quantitative and qualitative goals.
  • Develop, lead, and implement warehouse operation projects by analyzing data, material workflow, and space requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of warehouse engineering methodologies/tools, such as product slotting, cycle times, capacity analysis, routings, layouts, and optimization of materials flow and resource modeling to improve distribution and warehouse operations.
  • Effectively leverage data analytics, synthesizing, and taking actionable insights from various types of raw data sources (sales, inventory, and warehouse transaction logs).
  • Participate in warehouse operations and product transfer, and will design and work a plan of activities and sequences to allow operations movement from point a to b.
  • Provide process mapping and/or creating VSMs of current-state processes and improved processes, implementing changes, and quantifying savings.
  • Process and document standardization through the Distribution Center.
  • Obtain quotations and work with suppliers.
  • Work on capital and cost savings implementation projects.
  • Perform on the shop floor 80% of the time and must be able to work in various weather/temperature conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, and cold.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned by DC Manager.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's degree or four (4) years of experience in the field
  • Two (2) years or more related work experience in the warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing industry
  • Understand warehouse engineering: product slotting, distribution center material handling equipment, labor standards (time studies), distribution layouts and optimization of materials flow and space and headcount rationalization and forecasting
  • Disciplined individual that keeps records of studies, evidence, and standards of continuous improvement achievements
  • Analytical skill set to calculate cost impacts, labor savings, and other financial and operational effects
  • Strong planning, time management, and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrates troubleshooting skills and knows how to think outside of the box
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills with emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint, Project, and Visio
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Bilingual: English - Spanish
  • ERP: JDE, Oracle
  • WMS - Warehousing Manufacturing System
  • Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles
  • Project management/transition
  • Knowledge of warehousing and storage design and technologies
  • Knowledge of vendor management
  • Knowledge of visual factory, material flow controls (Kanban, Single piece flow, ABC Inventory)
  • Identify and acquires warehouse accessories, racks, and containers
  • Knowledge of MOST (Maynard Operation Sequence Technique) and MTM (Method-Time Measurement)

Work Environment/Physical Requirement

Employee will be exposed to moderate noise levels due to the warehouse work environment and high forklift traffic. Employee must be able to perform on the shop floor 80% of the time and must be able to work in various weather/temperature conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, and cold.

Schedule

This position is based on a Monday - Friday, 40-hour work schedule. Our teams work together to ensure their chosen work schedules are supporting our customers. This role may have a travel requirement of up to 5-10% of its time.
