Summary Serves as Budget Technician compiling, reviewing, recording, reporting, processing and tracking budgetary transactions for the commitment, obligation, and expenditure of agency funds; and serves as the Division's records liaison in the Records Management Office for the proper identification, maintenance, and disposition of budget records. Researches, compiles, and summarizes data concerning all elements of resource, workload, and line item information. Prepares data summaries for inclusion in routine and special reports on budgetary matters. Processes commitments and miscellaneous obligations in the agency's business systems as necessary.
Monitors account balances and reports on any projected shortfalls and excess balances. Properly names and saves digital files on a shared Budget drive for easy location and access. Works with the Records Management Office (RMO) to properly identify, maintain, and dispose of federal budget records.
Provides information to customers regarding routine or procedural service on budgetary matters in a clear and tactful manner. Supervision received at the lower grade levels will be closer with oversight and review being provided on a regular basis. GG-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: assisting in the formulation and development of an annual operating budget; assisting in the recording of budgetary transactions for monthly reports; assisting with researching and compiling cost data to formulate budget estimates; reviewing budgetary transactions to ensure they meet funding requirements; assisting with extracting budgetary data to input into financial reports; assisting with analyzing, formulating, justifying, and revising annual budget estimates for salaries and operating funds; operating a computer to complete electronic communications and spreadsheet analysis; properly identifying, maintaining, and disposing of federal budget records; and providing information to customers regarding routine or procedural services on budgetary matters. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-06). GG-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: assisting in the formulation and development of an annual operating budget; assisting in the recording of budgetary transactions for monthly reports; researching and compiling cost data to formulate budget estimates; reviewing budgetary transactions to ensure they meet funding requirements; extracting budgetary data to input into financial reports and verifying financial reports are accurate and meet budget requirements; analyzing, formulating, justifying, and revising annual budget estimates for salaries and operating funds; operating a computer to complete electronic communications and spreadsheet analysis; properly identifying, maintaining, and disposing of federal budget records; and providing information to customers regarding routine or procedural services on budgetary matters.

Time in Grade (TIG): Current and some former Federal employees must have a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level to be eligible under Merit Promotion procedures. An SF-50 must be provided that verifies eligibility as stated in the Area of Consideration section.
