DEFINITION/GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs computer technician and audio/video production duties required for daily operation of the Information Technology Department. Conducts preventive maintenance on computers and associated peripheral devices.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the Information Technology Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible to the City of Copperas Cove Information Technology Manager for administration purposes and guidance.
Assists Informational Technology Staff in installation, troubleshooting, upgrades and repair of all Computer and Local Area Network based computer systems.
Provides technical support and assistance, as needed, for local area network and computer systems for all City Departments.
Evaluates network related problems over the LAN, WAN, VPN and terminal services. Determines the need for repair of network hardware and software.
Obtains and gives out information concerning departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains close working relationship with all City of Copperas Cove employees and departments.
Provide hardware and software technical support to City staff.
Answers telephone and responds to inquiries.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Troubleshoots and evaluates computer hardware, software, peripherals and other technology equipment for repair or replacement.
Works with City audio/video equipment to broadcast and record City Council Meetings and Workshops.
Maintains production and audio/video equipment through inventory, repair or hiring repair.
Ensures proper operation of audio/video equipment.
Produces programs and broadcast information for the City Government Access Channel including graphic text messages and video.
Sets up related equipment to include cameras, audio and lighting equipment, and performs minor maintenance on equipment as needed.
Produces and distributes DVD copies as needed.
No one will perform the duties of a higher position without prior authorization from an individual authorized to approve.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Serves on various employee committees.
Performs other duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) year college degree or equivalent semester hours in a computer related field preferred,
Graduation from high school or equivalent required,
Two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be of good moral character, as determined by a criminal background check.
Employee must have a valid Texas Driver's License by date of hire.
Attendance is an essential job function.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of computer-based systems;
Working knowledge of operating communications equipment;
Working knowledge of electronic equipment;
Skill in installation, upgrading, repairing and troubleshooting of computer systems;
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
Ability to establish successful working relationships;
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision;
Working knowledge of audio/video equipment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Local area network file servers; computer systems, printers, and computer-based software; hand tools; telephone; fax and copy machines.

The employee is exposed to eye strain from display terminals and back and neck strain from constant keyboard work.
