Lead Character Technical Artist, Rigging & Skinning

A Lead Character Technical Artist on the World of Warcraft team will be responsible for helping the rigging team bring the creatures and characters of Azeroth to life.

The position will help support the character production process by building cross-functional partnerships helping forge the best path forward with various assets coming through the production pipeline.

You will work with related art departments to set standards of making sure character models are created for proper deformation, game ready optimizations, and ready to be rigged. Along with helping improve various workflows throughout the art pipeline involving character and animation and your own workflows of rigging/skinning with a high-level goal of raising the bar for Tech Art support of those teams.

R&D rigging solutions within proprietary rigging systems
Be the voice of the rigging team
Provide guidance during creative discussions with Art leadership
Make decisions that keep the production moving forward
Provide continued career growth to the rigging team
Partner with production to ensure schedules and plans meet business needs
Partner with art management to ensure team is healthy and strong


Provide direction and support to the rigging team
Create rigs and rigging systems for characters, mounts, and creatures
Communicate across departments
Collaborate with Character Artists and Animators to support their needs


Some experience leading a team in game/film development creating rigs
High skill level of rigging knowledge and responsibilities
Strong understanding of skinning, anatomy, cloth/hair, in-game physics.
Must be comfortable in a scripting environment
Understanding of animation fundamentals and how they apply to creating rigs
Understand real-time game development needs and game performance
Self-driven, passionate, creative problem solver, and a great team first attitude
Ability to identify, mentor and grow talent
