The Operations Safety Trainer will primarily support the learning and development function in operations by providing hands-on training with janitorial employees at client sites across the company. Reporting to the Safety Manager, this role will contribute to the Safety Culture through proper technical training and onboarding of all employees within specified sectors (Healthcare, Aerospace, Refineries, Government/Municipalities and Commercial). He/she will work directly with the Safety and Risk team and field leadership to develop and deliver safety content that encourages safety first and aligns with business needs.
  • Operate the lead team safety team member in an effort to reduce or eliminate injuries at work sites, through direct skills training of company employees at client sites
  • Apply technical and professional knowledge to a wide range of janitorial work activities. Utilize standardized training methods to front-line employees (and their direct supervision) to perform work safely, prevent injuries and identify hazards
  • Work independently with minimal supervision under the direction of the Safety Manager, utilizing professional judgment in the execution of training duties
  • Work collaboratively with Operations management and supervisory staff to develop training methods and training delivery programs.
  • Support the company value "never sacrifice safety" through consistent modelling, training and encouraging employees in safe practices as they perform their jobs
  • Work one-on-one with individuals during their shifts to review, correct and encourage them in the use of correct safety procedures using company approved standards for janitorial operations
  • Lead and facilitate training classes in the field at client sites and at corporate, using company approved standards for janitorial operations
  • Support the creation of training content, including facilitator's guides, learning aides, etc. that deliver replicable, consistent and effective messaging of the material through appropriate channels
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of existing field training programs and materials, an provide recommendations to improve quality and execution.
  • Implement easily understood technical training content for the roll out of new operational methods, equipment and materials
  • Ensure all training materials (online and physical) are up-to-date and reflect the latest policy and technology changes
  • Support Operations teams by ensuring they are properly utilizing online training programs (where available)
  • Remain current on new training and development learnings, offerings and competitive practices
  • Recommend enhancements to company programs as appropriate
  • Provide input to Safety Learning & Development strategy
  • 2+ years' experience facilitating front-line training both one-on-one and in classroom setting
  • 5+ years' experience in janitorial operations (preferred)
  • Bi-lingual (English and Spanish) required
  • Possess a working knowledge of Cal-OSHA compliance standards
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently; disciplined, and self-motivated.
  • Strong presentation skills; possess the confidence to speak in front of employees, delivering a clear message (in both English and/or Spanish)
  • Strong communication skills; attention to detail; ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Strong technical skills: able to use databases for entering and reporting data; proficient in MS Office Programs: email, calendar, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to train employees in standardized practices and procedures, including safety and proper use of body mechanics, PPE, tools, equipment, chemicals and materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively; to present information and respond to questions from managers, employees and others; and to escalate matters appropriately
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective working relationships with a culturally diverse workforce
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities, different locations, varied work shifts
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and common-sense skills
  • Ability to report to corporate office and local client facilities in Los Angeles County on a frequent basis (up to 90% of the time). Local client facilities assigned are subject to change within Los Angeles County.
  • Must possess a valid California Drivers' License, a driving record in good standing, and evidence of auto insurance. Daily use of a personal automobile for business travel
  • Must successfully pass LiveScan/background check in order to obtain access (badging) at client sites
  • Must pass a post-offer physical examination and drug test to be certified for the position and maintain a physical condition which, either with or without accommodation, allows completion of all essential duties
